Melissa Sherman

Melissa is an experienced quality management systems auditor, consultant, and trainer specializing in industrial Quality, Environmental and Safety standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001) and utilizes her extensive Lean and Continual Improvement experience to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of these management systems.

Melissa Sherman, MBA, is a Lean and continuous improvement leader with more than 30 years of experience advancing operational excellence, organizational change, and management system performance. She specializes in integrating Lean methodologies with formal auditing and compliance frameworks to strengthen organizational effectiveness and accountability.

Previously Melissa has served as a Senior Quality Improvement Consultant at Consumers Energy, where she led enterprise improvement initiatives, facilitated Kaizen events, and supported data-driven performance management. A core focus of her work included auditing and evaluating management systems to ensure alignment with internationally recognized standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. Through structured assessments, process reviews, and maturity evaluations, she helps organizations strengthen quality, environmental stewardship, and workplace safety while driving continuous improvement.

In addition to her industry leadership, Melissa serves on the board of the Michigan Lean Consortium.

Melissa holds a Master’s degree in Leadership Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering Technology from Baker College, along with a Graduate Certificate in Leadership Strategies from Davenport University. She maintains multiple professional certifications in Lean, change management, and problem-solving facilitation, along with auditing credentials.
